Should my preschooler still be napping?

Most children drop naps between ages 3 and 5. Signs your child is ready include: consistently resisting naps, napping but then struggling to fall asleep at bedtime, or sleeping through nap time without being cranky. If they still nap, keep it short (under 1.5 hours) and early in the afternoon so it doesn't push bedtime. Replace naps with 'quiet time' — reading, puzzles, or calm play — to maintain the rest period. Preschoolers need 10–13 hours of total sleep per day. Discuss your child's sleep needs with your pediatrician.
