How do I support my teen who is exploring their cultural or racial identity?

Identity exploration is a normal and healthy part of adolescence. Listen without judgment as your teen processes questions about where they belong, who they are, and what their heritage means to them. Provide access to cultural communities, mentors, and literature that reflect their experience. Be honest about your own cultural journey and any complexities in your family's history. If your teen is experiencing identity-related distress, consult your pediatrician or a culturally competent therapist.
