When should I start looking for infant care, and what should I prioritize?

Start researching during pregnancy — quality infant care programs often have long waitlists. Prioritize low caregiver-to-infant ratios (1:3 or 1:4 is ideal), staff trained in infant CPR and first aid, a warm and responsive caregiving philosophy, and strict safety protocols (safe sleep practices, sanitation). Visit in person: the environment should feel calm, clean, and nurturing. Ask about staff turnover — consistency is critical for infant attachment. Discuss childcare readiness with your pediatrician.
