How do I handle my toddler's separation anxiety at daycare drop-off?

Some tears at drop-off are normal and usually stop within 5–10 minutes of your departure. Create a consistent, brief goodbye ritual (a hug, a special phrase, a wave at the window) and then leave confidently — lingering increases anxiety. Avoid sneaking out, as this breaks trust. Talk about daycare positively at home and bring a comfort object if the program allows it. Most children fully adjust within 2–4 weeks. Consult your pediatrician if anxiety is severe, lasts more than a month, or causes physical symptoms.
