Is early or late puberty something I should worry about?

Puberty normally begins between ages 8–13 in girls and 9–14 in boys. 'Precocious puberty' (before age 8 in girls or 9 in boys) may need medical evaluation, as it can be caused by hormonal conditions. 'Delayed puberty' (no signs by 13 in girls or 14 in boys) also warrants evaluation. Both early and late developers may face social-emotional challenges — early maturers are at higher risk for body image issues and unwanted attention, while late developers may feel left behind. Consult your pediatrician if puberty timing seems significantly off.
