🍼 Infant · 3–12 months 🚧 Discipline & Boundaries

How do I start setting boundaries with my baby?

Babies under 12 months cannot misbehave intentionally — they're exploring, not defying. When your baby grabs something unsafe, calmly redirect: remove the object, offer a safe alternative, and say 'Not for baby — here, try this.' Consistency is key: repeat the same response each time. Baby-proofing is the most effective 'discipline' at this age — prevent the problem rather than correcting it. Say 'gentle hands' and guide their touch when they pull hair or grab faces. Discuss age-appropriate behavioral expectations with your pediatrician.
