Is separation anxiety and stranger anxiety normal for my baby?

Yes — separation anxiety typically peaks between 8–18 months and is a sign of healthy attachment, meaning your baby understands you exist even when out of sight (object permanence). Stranger anxiety appears around 6–8 months. Both are developmental milestones, not problems. Respond with reassurance, not frustration. Practice brief separations with a trusted caregiver and always say goodbye (don't sneak away). Most babies outgrow the intensity by age 2. Discuss separation anxiety milestones with your pediatrician.
