My preschooler is reading already — how do I nurture this without pressure?
Early reading (before age 5) can indicate giftedness or simply strong exposure to books. Either way, follow your child's lead — provide access to age-appropriate books at their reading level and let them choose what to read. Don't use flashcards or drilling, which can turn reading into a chore. Read together daily, discuss stories, and encourage questions. Expose them to diverse topics: science, history, and fiction. If they're bored in preschool, talk to the teacher about differentiated activities. Avoid over-labeling them as 'gifted' to their face, which can create pressure and performance anxiety. Discuss any concerns about development with your pediatrician.
