My preschooler prefers toys and clothes typically associated with another gender — should I be concerned?
Gender-nonconforming play is extremely common and developmentally normal in preschoolers. A boy who likes dolls or a girl who loves trucks is exploring the full range of human experience. Research shows this does not predict future gender identity or sexual orientation. The most important thing is to let your child play freely without shame or restriction. Avoid labeling or over-interpreting their preferences. If you have questions about gender development, discuss them with your pediatrician in a private conversation.
