How do I talk about puberty and bodily changes in terms of consent and boundaries?
As bodies change, conversations about consent expand: 'Your body is changing, and you get to decide who knows about those changes.' Teach that consent applies to personal information too — they don't have to answer intrusive questions from peers. Discuss media literacy: bodies in ads and social media aren't realistic. Establish that everyone has the right to say no to unwanted touch, comments about their body, or being photographed. Consult your pediatrician, who can also discuss puberty and consent directly with your child.
