How can our whole family practice mindfulness together?
Family mindfulness works best when it is short, simple, and consistent rather than formal. Try a 'gratitude round' at dinner where each person names one good thing from their day. Practice 'mindful eating' for the first few bites of one meal per week — notice colors, textures, and flavors. Take family nature walks where everyone spends 2 minutes in silence noticing sounds. Use car rides for 'I spy' with senses: 'What can you hear? What can you smell?' Do a '3-breath reset' together before homework time. The key is modeling — children learn mindfulness by watching you practice it, not by being told to do it. Keep it light and avoid turning it into another chore. Consult your pediatrician if your family is dealing with stress that feels beyond what these practices can address.
