What chores can a 2–3 year old realistically do?

Toddlers can put toys back in bins, place dirty clothes in a hamper, help wipe up spills with a cloth, 'help' set the table (napkins, plastic cups), and water plants with a small watering can. The goal isn't perfection — it's building the habit of contributing. Make it fun and praise the effort: 'You put all the blocks away — that was so helpful!' Expect to supervise and assist. Starting chores at age 2–3 builds lifelong responsibility skills (AAP). Discuss developmental expectations with your pediatrician.
