How much physical activity does my toddler need?

The CDC and AAP recommend that preschool-aged children (3–5) be physically active for at least 3 hours per day — about 15 minutes for every hour they're awake. For toddlers under 3, encourage active play throughout the day including walking, climbing, dancing, and outdoor exploration. Unstructured free play is just as valuable as organized activities at this age. Talk to your pediatrician about motor development milestones.
