How can I involve my baby in family mealtimes even before they can eat solid foods?

Including babies in family mealtimes from an early age establishes healthy eating habits and social connections with food. Seat your baby at the table in a high chair during meals, even before starting solids (around 6 months). Let them explore safe kitchen items: wooden spoons, silicone spatulas, and measuring cups. Once on solids, offer age-appropriate finger foods they can self-feed alongside the family meal. Narrate what you are cooking and eating — this builds food vocabulary and reduces picky eating later. The sensory experience of seeing, smelling, and hearing food preparation is valuable. Never leave a baby unsupervised near hot items or sharp objects. Consult your pediatrician about when to introduce specific solid foods.
