🍼 Infant · 3–12 months 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Dynamics & Transitions

How do I manage the changing family dynamic when transitioning from one child to two?

The arrival of a second baby reshapes family roles for everyone. Your older child may regress (bedwetting, clinginess, baby talk) — this is normal and temporary. Set aside daily one-on-one time with each child, even if brief. Involve the older child as a 'helper' without forcing responsibility. Accept that housework standards may drop temporarily. Communicate openly with your partner about the increased load and share nighttime duties where possible. Your infant won't remember this period, but your older child will — prioritize their emotional security alongside the baby's physical needs. Consult your pediatrician if your older child shows prolonged behavioral changes.
