How do I prepare my child for starting school for the first time?

Visit the school beforehand so it feels familiar — meet the teacher, see the classroom, and walk the route together. Practice the routine: waking up, getting dressed, and packing a bag. Read books about starting school and role-play scenarios like lunchtime and recess. Some tears at drop-off are normal and usually stop within minutes. Talk to your pediatrician if separation anxiety is severe or doesn't improve after several weeks.
