How do I handle the 'why don't I look like my parents?' question from my adopted preschooler?

Answer honestly and warmly: 'Families look all different ways! Some families match and some don't — what makes us a family is that we love each other.' Use diverse family books and media so your child sees many family configurations represented. If the adoption involves different racial or ethnic backgrounds, actively celebrate your child's heritage through food, culture, and community connections. Don't wait for them to feel 'different' — proactively affirm that difference is beautiful. Discuss identity development with your pediatrician.
