How do I help my child handle weight-related teasing?
Validate their pain first: 'That was cruel, and you didn't deserve that.' Build self-worth beyond appearance — emphasize their character, talents, kindness, and what their body can accomplish. Avoid 'fixing' their body in response to teasing (diets, restricting food), which can trigger disordered eating. Report persistent bullying to the school. Model body acceptance at home by not criticizing your own or others' bodies. Consult your pediatrician if teasing is affecting your child's eating, mood, or self-esteem.
