When should I start childproofing my home?

Begin childproofing before your baby starts crawling, typically around 6–8 months. Priorities include covering electrical outlets, securing heavy furniture to walls, installing safety gates at stairs, locking cabinets with cleaning products and medications, and removing small objects that pose choking hazards. Get down to your baby's eye level to spot dangers you might miss. Ask your pediatrician for a home safety checklist.
