When should I be concerned about my baby not meeting developmental milestones?

Key red flags include: not babbling by 6–9 months, no response to their name by 12 months, no pointing or waving by 12 months, and not walking by 18 months. However, milestones have ranges — some variation is normal. The AAP recommends autism screening at the 18- and 24-month well-child visits. If you have concerns, don't wait — contact your state's early intervention program (for children under 3) for a free evaluation, and discuss your observations with your pediatrician.
