How do I get my child evaluated for autism or ADHD, and what is an IEP?

Start by sharing your concerns with your pediatrician, who can refer you to a developmental pediatrician, child psychologist, or neurologist for formal evaluation. For children age 3+, your local school district is required to evaluate and provide services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) if your child qualifies. An IEP is a legally binding document that outlines specific goals, accommodations, and services your child will receive. You have the right to request an evaluation at any time.
