How do I teach my child to wipe properly and wash hands thoroughly?

Teach front-to-back wiping (especially important for girls to prevent infections) and practice until they master it — most children need help until age 4–5. For handwashing, sing 'Happy Birthday' twice (about 20 seconds) while scrubbing with soap and water. Make it fun with colorful soaps or glitter 'germs' that need to be washed off. Supervise and assist as needed. Ask your pediatrician about age-appropriate hygiene milestones.
