How much independence should I give my school-age child?

Gradually increase independence based on maturity, not just age. Start with small responsibilities: walking to a neighbor's house, making a simple snack, choosing their own clothes. Discuss safety rules clearly. Let them make age-appropriate decisions and experience natural consequences. This builds confidence and judgment.
