How do I poison-proof my home for a curious toddler?

Toddlers are the highest-risk age group for accidental poisoning because they explore everything by mouth. Store all medications (including vitamins and supplements) in locked cabinets — child-resistant caps are not child-proof. Move cleaning products, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, and pesticides to high, locked storage. Keep the Poison Control number saved in your phone (1-800-222-1222 in the US). Beware of less obvious hazards: essential oils, hand sanitizer, houseplants (some are toxic), e-cigarette liquid (extremely toxic), and button batteries. Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. Never transfer chemicals into food containers. If you suspect ingestion, call Poison Control before inducing vomiting. Consult your pediatrician about additional hazards specific to your home.
