Should I teach my preschooler to read?
If your child shows interest, follow their lead with letter sounds and simple words. But don't push formal reading instruction. At this age, the best foundation for literacy is reading aloud together every day, playing with rhyming words, and pointing out letters in the environment. Most children learn to read in kindergarten or first grade.
