How do I know if my toddler is ready for preschool?

Key readiness signs include the ability to separate from parents without extreme distress, basic self-help skills (eating independently, beginning potty training), following simple instructions, and showing interest in other children. Your child does NOT need to know letters, numbers, or colors before starting preschool — that's what preschool teaches. Social-emotional readiness matters more than academic knowledge at this stage. Many children who aren't 'ready' at 2.5 thrive at 3. Discuss developmental readiness with your pediatrician if you're unsure.
